A detail of my heart ring becomes something special because of its inconspicuousness: the refined, almost invisible setting of the sparkling diamonds. While many goldsmiths work with four or more gold grains to set a diamond, the experts at Segal Jewelry have perfected the two-grain setting. This elaborate type of barrel gives the diamond the largest possible surface – so a lot of light can penetrate into it to make its facets shine and reveal its full brilliance. This type of barrel poses a challenge for the setter, because the scope for tolerances is minimal: all diamonds must be at the same angle to the center of the ring in order to sparkle evenly on the wearer’s hand with every turn. Nor should they be too deep.
