Deaf and mute since birth, Mr. Roshan arrived in the UAE in 1989, searching for opportunity in a new land. For the past 36 years, he has lived a life defined by dignity and perseverance—working as a cook and taking up any job he could to support his family back home in Sri Lanka.

But there’s more to Mr. Roshan than meets the eye. Apart from being a hardworking professional, he is also a gifted artist, a creative genius with a deep love for capturing the beauty of Dubai’s Creek—its bustling dhows, timeless energy, and vibrant life.

His journey in art began early—as soon as he could hold a brush—but it was at the age of nine, during his time at the Al Noor Centre, a special school in Dubai, that his talent truly began to shine. Teachers noticed his unique touch, and his passion found the recognition it deserved.

A pivotal moment came in the late 1980s, when Peter Rogers, a highly regarded painter living in Dubai at the time, became his first mentor. Their first lesson? Rogers handed young Roshan a palette and paper in a garden and asked him to paint the marigolds in the flower bed. That moment marked the beginning of a journey filled with color, expression, and soul.

Mr. Roshan’s art has also been recognized and featured in the Gulf News Tabloid, showcasing not only his talent but also the spirit of someone who paints the world despite the silence around him.
